Project Management Goals
The file available below outlines the goals for advancement of the Manufacturing Work Cell project. This was a way for the Work Cell team to create manageable goals and to have a set deadline for each. Because the National Robotics Challenge competition date is absolute, deadlines and work efficiency are vital during work time on this project. The Project Management Goals sheet helped each team member to keep in mind what it was that needed to be accomplished.
The English skills utilized in this project include:
1. Participate collaboratively and productively in groups (e.g., response groups, work teams, discussion groups, and committees)—fulfilling roles and responsibilities, posing relevant questions, giving and following instructions, acknowledging and building on ideas and contributions of others to answer questions or to solve problems, and offering dissent courteously.
2. Recognize the role of research, including student research, as a contribution to collective knowledge, selecting an appropriate method or genre through which research findings will be shared and evaluated, keeping in mind the needs of the prospective audience. (e.g., presentations, online sharing, written products such as a research report, a research brief, a multi-genre report, I-Search, literary analysis, news article).
3. Demonstrate appropriate social skills of audience, group discussion, or work team behavior by listening attentively and with civility to the ideas of others, gaining the floor in respectful ways, posing appropriate questions, and tolerating ambiguity and lack of consensus.
4. Critically read and interpret instructions for a variety of tasks (e.g., completing assignments, using software, writing college and job applications).
The Employability skills utilized in this project include:
1. Select appropriate human/material resources
2. Prioritize work
3. Coordinate several tasks simultaneously
4. Complete tasks on time and meet deadlines
5. Demonstrate initiative
6. Work without close supervision
7. Be willling to put out extra effort, as required
8. Set realistic goals and plan to achieve them
I have included this project in my portfolio as a means of demonstrating my capabilities of organization, communication, leadership, and ability to work with team members. In addition to those skills, and the skills listed above, this project is part of a bigger project (the end result of this project): the National Robotics Challenge preparation. This has all added to the bigger picture of my capabilities and portrays what I have to contribute to any working environment.
